The Hidden Reason You Feel Stuck

Jul 03, 2026

Last weekend, my lovely French friend Marie and I hosted a Midwinter Alchemy Dinner.

Marie has the most beautiful garden, so we created a seasonal garden-to-table feast. We are both notorious for over-catering, so there was an abundance of food – from homemade soup with fresh bread and labneh to frozen sorbet served inside lemons.

The dinner was held in a beautiful home overlooking the sea here on Waiheke Island. Marie decorated the table with oranges, pumpkins from her garden, candles and greenery, and we gathered with 14 wonderful friends for an evening of delicious food, deep conversations, belly laughs and an impromptu music jam.

One of the things I love most about evenings like these is watching everyone's unique expression come to life.

For me, it's through food. I love creating meals and creating spaces where people feel safe enough to share, reflect and connect.

As the evening unfolded, I saw each person's unique expression emerge. One friend had us in stitches with their humour. Another captivated us with stories. Someone shared their passion for wine. One person picked up a guitar and filled the room with music, while another played the piano so beautifully it brought us all to tears.

It reminded me that there is something incredibly special about being in spaces where we feel safe enough to fully express who we are.

It's also something I've noticed in both myself and my clients.

When we aren't expressing what is uniquely ours to bring into the world, we often describe ourselves as feeling... stuck.

I've started to wonder if the deepest pain of feeling stuck isn't that we're not making progress, but that our authentic expression has become blocked by the protective patterns that once kept us safe.

In today's podcast, I explore this idea through the lens of the nervous system and Internal Family Systems, and share why feeling stuck may have far less to do with motivation or discipline than we've been led to believe.

I also share a simple three-step practice to help you reconnect with your own unique expression and get unstuck.
